Couple remain in custody after premature infant's death in Yeovil

Two individuals have been placed in custody on charges related to the death of a two-week-old infant in a hospital.
Daniel Gunter, 25, of no fixed address but previously from the Glastonbury area, and Sophie Staddon, 20, also of no fixed address but from the Yeovil area, face accusations regarding the demise of Brendon Staddon at Yeovil District Hospital in Somerset on March 5.
This includes allegations that, due to their close relationship and frequent interactions with Brendon, they were either directly responsible for his death or failed to shield him from a discernible risk of serious harm.
The pair did not attend a brief Bristol Crown Cour hearing today.
Prosecutor Robert Yates informed the court that preliminary findings suggested Brendon's death was due to a severe skull fracture while he was in the neo-natal unit.
The legal representatives for Staddon and Gunter, Rupert Morgan-Jones and Lucy Taylor, respectively, did not request bail for their clients.
Judge William Hart scheduled a pre-trial and preparation hearing for April 5, with both defendants remaining in custody until then.
