Sam Maxfield, driven by a passion for environmental issues and a desire to make a positive impact, founded CLEAN but Green, an eco-friendly cleaning business.
With a background in science, Maxfield extensively researched and experimented to find effective and sustainable solutions for cleaning. The result was the creation of CLEAN but Green in 2014, with the aim of reducing toxic impact while maintaining professional cleaning standards.
"One of the main inspirations behind starting CLEAN but Green was the realisation that the cleaning industry, at the time, was lagging behind in terms of sustainability," Maxfield explains.
"I wanted to bridge that gap and offer a cleaning service that aligns with environmental values."
The benefits of using environmentally friendly cleaning products are numerous. CLEAN but Green keeps its cleaning kit simple, using only two main components and a few specialised products for specific surfaces or challenging areas. These products offer several advantages, including reduced water usage due to the absence of rinsing, making them time-efficient too; they are safe for pets, children, allergy sufferers, and septic tanks.
By avoiding the use of lingering aerosols or heavy fragrances, CLEAN but Green contributes to improved indoor air quality. The company also ensures a carbon-neutral supply chain and promotes circular packaging by returning used bottles back to the manufacturer for recycling. Microfibre cloths, which are recyclable, are used, along with biodegradable disposable gloves. The company is proud to be against animal testing.
Maxfield emphasises that eco-friendly cleaning products effectively clean and sanitise surfaces. Microfibre cloths, combined with eco-friendly detergents, lift and hold dirt and germs, preventing cross-contamination. In addition, powerful steam cleaners are utilised to disinfect surfaces and fabrics using only water and heat. These methods ensure high cleaning standards while minimising the use of harmful chemicals.
"The misconception that strong chemicals are necessary for effective cleaning is one of the biggest challenges we face," Maxfield reveals. "We aim to educate and demonstrate that environmentally friendly alternatives can be just as effective without causing harm."
Switching to eco-conscious cleaning products has numerous benefits for both individuals and the environment. By choosing such products, consumers contribute to reduced water consumption, improved indoor air quality, and a reduced carbon footprint. Additionally, these products are safe for people, pets, and the wider ecosystem.
Maxfield believes that the adoption of environmentally friendly cleaning practices should be encouraged among individuals and businesses alike.
"Making small sustainable changes in our homes and workplaces can have a significant impact," Maxfield says. "By reducing our chemical usage, minimising waste, and considering our environmental footprint, we can collectively create a cleaner and healthier world."
With a commitment to sustainability, CLEAN but Green continues to stay at the forefront of eco-friendly cleaning practices.
By providing effective and environmentally responsible cleaning solutions, the company aims to inspire others to make the switch to a greener approach. The company also advocates fair treatment and wages for their workers and are proud to be in their second year of being a recognised Real Living Wage employer.
As Sam Maxfield and CLEAN but Green have demonstrated, eco-friendly cleaning products offer a multitude of benefits, ensuring clean and healthy spaces while minimising harm to the environment. Through their dedication to sustainability, they are paving the way for a cleaner and greener future.
