A student from Glastonbury who previously lit up the tower on Glastonbury Tor blue in recognition of key workers, will be lighting it up red tonight (August 11) in support of the events industry.

Sam Wardell previously lit up St Michael's Tower on the Tor for the national clap for carers initiative, but now is backing the We Make Events/Red Alert campaign to highlight the difficult times the events industry is experiencing.

Sam, who joined Millfield Prep in Edgarley in 2012 and is now an Upper Sixth student at Millfield Senior School in Street, has been learning the art of lighting and stage management with Millfield's theatre technical team since his first production of Arabian Nights in 2015.

A spokesperson for Millfield said: "Tonight Sam is turning the Glastonbury Tor tower red to raise awareness for the events industry.

"Keep your eyes peeled tonight for a rare sight in Somerset."

As part of today's Red Alert day of action, more than 300 venues are expected to be lit up red like the Tor, including the National Theatre and Royal Festival Hall.

Among those who have voiced their support of the campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the threat of job losses in the sector, are Peter Gabriel, Imogen Heap and The Cure.
